In this lively and dramatic summer course, students read theater scenes to practice their critical analysis skills and put on their own original production.

Live instructors help students (ages 9–12) build skills for reading and interpreting theater scenes as they work together to write and rehearse a show-stopping performance of their own!

    Curriculum

Watch your student take the stage in this exciting course. Students build important textual analysis skills as they learn about the art of theater and performance, including how to read, annotate, and even write their own scripts. During class, students analyze and act out a range of texts for the stage, as well as develop their own pieces.

Each lesson also features interactive games, acting exercises, and other fun activities designed to bring out their inner thespian!

Students who took our Readers' Theater camp prior to summer 2023 will see repeated material in this class. Reach out to us at virtual@aopsacademy.org for help on finding the right camp!

Students must purchase the required book(s) before the start of the course.

    Format

Our instructors hold classes virtually, in a small-sized (10-16 students) videoconferencing classroom. With a small class size, teachers can give individualized attention to each student, providing real-time verbal and written feedback and supporting students' growth as writers.
