Contest Math 7A and Contest Math 7B together offer a full year of contest preparation to help students succeed at top math contests. It is the second level of our middle school contest series.

Live instructors build the algebra fundamentals for students and prepare them to face challenges at national math contests, like MATHCOUNTS and the MAA AMC 8.

    Choose the right level

Students who complete Contest Math 7A are ready for Contest Math 7B. Similar to Honors Math 7: Intro to Algebra, this course takes conceptual understanding to the next level — while also integrating a special focus on highly challenging problems and practice contests for students who want to participate in math competitions.

    Curriculum

Our expert instructors use the Art of Problem Solving curriculum to teach Contest Math 7: Intro to Algebra. AoPS curriculum is a much broader and deeper exploration of challenging mathematics than a typical math curriculum.

This course will require two textbooks: Introduction to Algebra and Art of Problem Solving, Volume 1.

    Contest Math 7A
In this course, students build on their work through the study of linear equations and inequalities, ratios and proportions, and radicals. They are introduced to quadratic equations and develop critical thinking through analysis of factoring techniques. Students are further challenged by contest problems that incorporate multiple concepts and skills, and sometimes require out-of-the-box thinking.

    Contest Math 7B
In this course, students advance their understanding of algebraic topics such as the quadratic functions, sequences & series, complex numbers, logarithms, and optimization. Like in Contest Math 7A, students will be further challenged by complicated math contests problems throughout the course.
