In this summer course, students explore some of our math team's favorite unconventional math topics while building problem-solving skills that they'll use throughout their education.
Math Beasts Camp 8-9 (Geometry Prep)
Choose the right level
Math Beasts Camp 8-9 is designed for students who are ready for a Geometry course, such as Honors Math 8 or Contest Math 8.
Our expert instructors use content developed by the Art of Problem Solving curriculum team to teach Math Beasts Camp 8-9, a deeper exploration of topics that students start to learn in Algebra. AoPS curriculum prepares students for success at top universities and competitive careers. No books are required for this class.
Math Beasts Camp 8-9 includes sessions in Mathematical Exploration and Problem Solving.
Our Mathematical Exploration sessions are designed to equip students with general mathematical strategies that will be useful throughout the rest of their education. We introduce exciting topics that most students won't encounter until much later in their schooling. In this course, students will build their mathematical toolkit as they explore novel problems in the rich field of geometry. We will investigate different types of surfaces through the lens of topology, games with multi-dimensional shapes, and an intuitive approach to the building blocks of calculus, to name a few.
The Problem Solving sessions focus on logical thinking, while providing review of key math concepts from Algebra. Students participate in a wide range of math-related games and puzzles that are meant to push student understanding of familiar topics well beyond the standard grade level.
Our instructors hold classes virtually, in a small-sized (10-16 students) videoconferencing classroom.
There is no required homework for Math Beasts Camp 8-9. However, we've prepared more materials than we can cover during class and many students continue working on them after class for extra practice.
