Honors Math 4C/4D

Academic Year Mathematics

Honors Math 4C/4D is the second half of a full year of curriculum for advanced fourth or fifth graders. Most of our students complete Honors Math 4A/4B before taking this course.

Students in this course continue to build on foundational skills to develop mathematical fluency in a number of topics. We introduce students to decimals and negative integers, help them learn how to add and multiply fractions, expand their understanding of the properties involved, and more.

As in the previous course, students continue to build their problem-solving strategies through challenging word problems and engaging puzzles that guide them toward a deep understanding of the material.

Student Placement

To determine if your child is ready for this course, please have them take our Placement Test. Honors Math 4C/4D is often a good starting point for a fifth grader who is new to Beast Academy and beyond Honors Math 4A/4B, but not ready for Honors Math 5A/5B.

Format

All classes are held in a small-size (10-16 students) videoconferencing classroom run by an expert instructor.

Curriculum

Beast Academy is an elementary school math curriculum developed by Art of Problem Solving to give students the problem-solving foundation they'll need to succeed in any intellectual endeavor. This course covers the Beast Academy 4C and 4D Guide and Practice books. This Alignment Chart shows the curriculum standards covered in the book chapters.

Homework and Exams

There is about 1 to 3 hours of homework each week. There are two timed exams - one in Week 9 and one in Week 18. The homework and exam use Beast Academy Online, whose subscription is included in the tuition for the duration of the course.

Drop and Refund Policies

Please see class drop and refund policies on the tuition page.

"AoPS Academy has a superb curriculum, combined with outstanding teachers who have provided our son a fantastic foundation in mathematics. If only I could have experienced teaching like this when I was young, it would have changed my career choice. The academy is a perfect extension of school in that they challenge students to learn at a much deeper and rigorous level. They also stimulate their interest in mathematics by emphasizing analytical thought over rote memorization of formulas.

The academy truly lays a deep foundation in mathematical thinking for success in all areas involving STEM subjects. It is really exciting to be among teachers and children who love math!

The harder the problem - the more exciting it is to the students and teachers at AoPS Academy."
