Honors Math 4A/4B

Academic Year Mathematics

Honors Math 4A/4B and Honors Math 4C/4D together cover a full year's curriculum for advanced fourth or fifth graders.

In this course, students continue to build on foundational skills to develop mathematical fluency in a number of topics. We introduce students to topics like different properties of two-dimensional shapes, symmetry, logic, factors, and probability. Students master multiplication and division with multi-digit numbers, learn how to add and multiply fractions, and expand their understanding of the properties involved.

Throughout the course, we’ll emphasize problem-solving strategies to help students build foundational skills that they will use throughout their math education. Most lessons include challenging word problems and engaging puzzles that guide students toward a deep understanding of the material.

Student Placement

To determine if your child is ready for this course, have them take our Placement Test. If your child is not ready for this course, please consider Honors Math 3A/3B or Honors Math 3C/3D.

If you believe your student is beyond Honors Math 4A/4B, please consider Honors Math 4C/4D and Honors Math 5A/5B. Please note that fifth graders without prior experience with the Beast Academy curriculum are often best-served by starting with Honors Math 4A/4B or Honors Math 4C/4D rather than with Honors Math 5A/5B.

Format

All classes are held in a small-size (10-16 students) videoconferencing classroom run by an expert instructor.

Curriculum

Beast Academy is an elementary school math curriculum developed by Art of Problem Solving to give students the problem-solving foundation they'll need to succeed in any intellectual endeavor. "General coaching classes at many academic training centers stress repetition of the concept until a student grasps it thoroughly. At AoPS Academy, they go far beyond repetition. Their highly qualified instructors do a great job at teaching fundamental concepts to students at much greater depth, and challenge them to walk that extra mile by presenting them with more complex problems to solve. It provides a great learning experience in a friendly, fun, yet competitive and challenging environment. They provide their students with a combination of excellent instructional curriculum along with amazing online tools. AoPS Academy also encourages students to take part in various competitions. Overall they do an incredible job imparting a deep knowledge of both math and language arts to all of their students, and AoPS Academy sets them on a path towards their career goals. We are happy to be part of AoPS Academy family!"
